From November 2027, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam devotes an entire floor to new work by Nazif Lopulissa (Tiel, 1991). His practice explores themes of migration, cultural identity and the experience of living between different worlds. Using the ikat weaving technique—an ancient dyeing and weaving process in which patterns are applied to the yarn before it is woven—he connects personal stories with colonial history and the lasting impact of traumatic events across generations.

From collaborative weaving sessions and archival research to monumental installations, Lopulissa shows how personal memories can become a shared, collective experience. His work reflects on moving between worlds, feeling partly at home everywhere while never fully belonging anywhere, and the new forms of identity that emerge from this in-between space.
The exhibition is curated by guest curator Rita Ouédraogo.

Stedelijk Museum Schiedam previously exhibited work by Nazif Lopulissa in the exhibition Glashard. Post-graffiti in the Glasfabriek (2021/2022) and in Ekstasis. A universe of light and sound (2023/2024). The museum also holds the work Locomotion, Paynes grey, 2021 in its collection.
